We do not believe that a one size fits all approach should be used when it comes to design and as such no two shepherd huts leaving our workshop are ever the same.

Who Are Moorlands?
We are a family run business who’ve been designing and manufacturing for the last 10 years. What started as a design to solve an individual issue grew into a business and we still take that same approach today. We design solutions to your problems or ideas. We focus on your requirements and add our experience to the final design. This means your finished Shepherd Hut meets your initial brief rather than compromising on your vision.
Where Do We Manufacture?
We design & build all of Shepherd Huts in our Workshop in Cheadle, Staffordshire. Our workshop has been designed to enable our team to manufacture all of the elements of your hut right here. As all manufacturing happens on-site it allows us to offer full personalisation to your design. We offer a range of purchase options for customers from Chassis only to fully fitted turnkey huts. Take a look at the below options to find out more.
Chassis Only
Our chassis are the perfect starting point for any competent self builder. Available in sizes ranging from 12′ to 30′ as well as bespoke sizes by request, our standard width is 8′ but can also be increased to suit your requirements.
Self Build Kits
Our self build kit offers unrivalled value in the market including all of the major components to create a watertight rolling shell. Allowing an easy route to Shepherd Hut ownership. We’re also on hand for remote build support.
Rolling Shell Huts
Our rolling shell Shepherd Huts are designed for customers wishing to let their artistic flair for interior design flow without the hassle of frame erection. You can site your hut and continue working regardless of the weather.
Fully Fitted Turnkey Huts
If you’re looking for the hassle free option then our turnkey Shepherd Huts are for you, you work with us to design every aspect of the final specification then leave it to the hands of our capable team to deliver a ready to go hut.
How Do You Keep Your Shepherd Hut Warm?
The first area we concentrate on is the insulation of your hut, we offer as standard substantially more insulation than most on the market this includes a solid 50mm PIR insulation to the floor, with 70mm PIR insulation in all external walls and 100mm of insulation in the roof.
Couple this with high quality uPVC double glazed windows and doors and you’ve got an extremely thermal efficient structure. Ready for all year round usage whether using the Shepherd Hut as a Garden Office, Occasional guest accommodation, studio or full glamping experience.
When it comes to heating a shepherd hut, there are several excellent options to consider, each with its own set of advantages. Among the top choices are the Log Burner, Electric Underfloor Heating, Air Conditioning, and Electric Panel Heater. Electrics For Your Shepherd Hut
We take the time to understand your interior vision along with the intended use of the Shepherd Hut when deciding on the electrics. We don’t just specify “X” number of outlets we design the electrics to suit you. Taking this approach means that you have the correct outlets where you need them.
Some guidance we offer to our clients include:
- Lighting – We always advise our customers to opt for zoned lighting allowing users to create a cozy nigh time environment, whilst also lowering consumption.
- Bedroom – We typically include or suggest charging outlets built in to the custom designed headboard for guest convenience
- External – Will you be creating an outdoor area, if so we suggest external IP rated sockets fitted to the underside of the hut to avoid trailing wires
- Unique Ideas – We always think that setting your hut apart from the rest is a great idea, such as our starry night installation in a Herdwick Hut
Exterior Finishes For Your Shepherd Hut
This is one of the biggest choices our customers have to make. First impressions count and the exterior of your hut has to wow. From the windows and doors, roof finish and external wall finishes everything is customisable by you.
We offer a range of colour choices for the roof from our Plastisol coated corrugated steel roof sheets range. Our most popular being Anthracite as it’s natural tones blend into the night sky, however the choice is yours.
External wall finishes can be trickier to decide upon, we offer a range of choices including the most popular options below.
- Timber – A huge range of options here including not only timber choice e.g Oak, Larch, Red Grandis, Cedar and many more… We then also offer a range of profiles in many of the timbers including waney edge, feather edge, shadow gap, tongue and groove. A word of note here is Timber will be the highest maintenance option
- Composite Cladding – If you like the idea of timber then we always recommend you consider composite. It offers the visual appearance of timber without the maintenance. This has been one of our most popular cladding choices over the last few years since we introduced it.
- Plastisol Coated Corrugated Steel – A traditional look for Shepherd Huts and again available in a wide range of colours. A maintenance free option like composite and paired with contrasting window and doors really makes your Shepherd Hut pop
Windows and doors are available in timber, uPVC or Aluminium depending on your preference. We always suggest a contrasting look for your windows as mentioned above. However the choice is yours. Depending upon your choice of material interior finishes can be different to the exterior and all units are double glazed.
Interior Finishes
Interior finishes is one of the most personal decisions to be made. It ranges from not only the interior wall finishes but can also include choices of colours, kitchen, fire surrounds, bathrooms, flooring, worktops, custom cabinetry and much, much more.
Some ideas we have found extremely popular include:
- Wall Finishes – lower walls finished with a panelling in a contrasting colour with a timber dado to split with vertical timber tongue and groove cladding above
- Custom Cabinetry – Especially important in home offices and studios, allowing you to clear the sides and keep a clean, organised working environment
- Bespoke Clothes Storage – If you’re designing a glamping experience then don’t overlook clothes storage, we have built numerous storage solutions for guest comfort
- Kitchens – Think about not only food preparation but also appliances, we offer a huge range of integrated appliances for consideration
